With Asia and the Pacific’s energy demand projected to double by 2030, about 200 million people without electricity and more than 1.7 billion people without access to clean cooking, ADB is committed to helping its developing member countries achieve access to clean energy for all.

ADB’s Energy Policy Review

ADB's 2009 Energy Policy aims to help developing member countries provide reliable, adequate, and affordable energy for economic growth in a socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable way. A review of the 2009 policy is underway to align ADB’s energy operations with Strategy 2030, recognizing the changing contexts and increasing needs of ADB’s developing members while mindful of the impacts of increasing energy use to the climate and environment.

ADB COVID-19 Response: Energy

ADB's COVID-19 Response is a $20 billion package to support its developing member countries in countering the severe macroeconomic and health impacts caused by COVID-19, including $2.5 billion in concessional and grant resources, as well as $2 billion earmarked for the private sector (nonsovereign).

Committed Amount is the financing approved by ADB's Board of Directors or Management for which the legal agreement has been signed by the borrower, recipient, or the investee company and ADB.
*Projects may be listed in more than one country or subregion. The number of projects excludes short-term finance transactions under the Trade Finance, Supply Chain Finance, and Microfinance Programs.

Energy Issues in Asia and the Pacific

Energy demand is projected to almost double in the Asia and Pacific region by 2030. Widespread energy poverty across Asia has curtailed development.

This section highlights the energy issues and trends that ADB has identified as priorities in developing Asia and the Pacific to achieve access to clean energy for all, and contribute to meeting global climate goals under the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
